What is Somatic Counseling?

The kind of counseling I offer engages the mind, body, and soul. Somatic counseling focuses on the entire human being. In addition to talking I help clients observe the physical sensations that surface when emotions and experiences show up. By getting in contact with your sensory experience in the here and now, with my guidance, you will make connections to the past. From this place you can start to uncover patterns and beliefs that at one time helped you but now may be limiting you. With somatic counseling the body is often the portal “in” and in my experience, a somatic approach can facilitate a deeper knowing.

I understand healing to be relational and ongoing. The trusting relationship that I build with clients is paramount, as it is the sacred container in which exploration take place. In my experience, personally and professionally, it often takes a variety of approaches to bring about change. When we begin working together I will meet you exactly where you are at and I will ask you to identify your goals. To help you move towards your aspirations, I draw on my training in adult education, somatic and spiritual psychotherapy, mindfulness, neuroscience, and yoga.

You would be a good candidate to work with me if you are open to exploring experientially. When working with clients, I may invite in photographs, poetry, music, movement, breath work, role plays, journalling. and meditation. I bring humility and curiosity to the art and science of healing and I deeply respect the courage required to open ones inner world.

I am committed to growth through ongoing professional education, clinical supervision, personal therapy, rest, and play.
