Mental Health Awareness Week
This week is Mental Health Awareness Week. One in five Canadians experience a mental health or addiction problem. We are slowly getting better at asking for help. There is now clear, scientific evidence that yoga is one of the leading known effective interventions for treating mental health issues like anxiety, depression and trauma. Everyone experiences trauma in life. We can understand trauma as extreme stress that overwhelms a person’s ability cope. Trauma could take the form of divorce, illness, a car accident, assault or growing up in an alcoholic household.
If you are experiencing the impact of trauma, you may be feeling anxious, depressed, disconnected or frozen. Individuals who have experienced trauma need to have physical and sensory experiences to help unlock their bodies, learn to feel and tolerate sensations, get to know their inner experiences, and cultivate new ways of being in the world.
Yoga means union. It is an excellent adjunct to psychotherapy and needs to be practiced regularly in order to receive the desired effects. I love my work in this area and am here to help. Human beings are resilient creatures. There is hope. Feel free to reach out if I may be of service.
Namaste,
