How It Works

I have come to understand that healing is a relational, participatory, and holistic process. I have named my approach Relational Somatic Psychotherapy. Somatic inquiry  - named for “soma” or the living body, is a way to connect the body and mind using internal attentiveness.  Relational somatic healing explores the body-mind interface and uses an integrated approach to working with the whole person. In sessions, clients and I explore thoughts, breath, sensations, posture, feelings, beliefs and behaviour to gather information, uncover patterns and ultimately solidify healthier ways of being in the world

My approach is highly relational. The relationship that clients and I cultivate is central to the healing process, as it serves as the safe container in which to explore. Wounding most often happens in relationship, thus, it makes sense that healing needs to occur with the support of a caring human being.  My role is one of empathic guide or facilitator as you travel along your healing path. You don’t have to do this alone however, I truly believe that YOU are the expert on your life. I will teach you to listen to your innate intelligence and wisdom.  By processing the past and the circumstances that led you to where you are, you will integrate these experiences as opposed to having them define you. With awareness, tools and support, healing is definitely possible.

Sessions are tailored to meet you where you are at. Each is unique and organic in nature, usually comprised of a mix of talking and experiencing. I draw on a variety of modalities to support you. Some of these include:

  • Compassionate mindfulness

  • Psycho-education

  • Relational Psychodynamic methods

  • Self Inquiry

  • Breath work

  • Grounding

  • Yoga

  • Meditation and visualization

  • Inner child work

  • Focusing

  • Somatic and postural exercises

  • Conscious communication

  • Writing and/or journaling

I am particularly interested in and experienced working with people who are dealing with:

  • Trauma

  • Anxiety

  • Stress

  • Relationship Issues

  • Self Esteem Issues

  • Addiction
