Community Work + Wellness Initiatives

In addition to teaching yoga at studios and privately, Lisa is passionate about partnering with community organizations to share appropriate yoga programming for that organization and/or community. With her background in adult education and community development, she is well-suited to develop yoga programs that support a variety of different people. Lisa has developed and delivered programming for:

  • Workplaces
  • Schools
  • Churches
  • Hospitals
  • Hotels
  • Interest Groups, ie. Mother's Groups

Below is a sampling of some of Lisa's current and recent initiatives. If you have questions about how Lisa can work with your community organization, please contact lisamitchell@mac.com.

Helix Healthcare Group, Yorkville, Toronto

Helix Healthcare Group helps people suffering from a variety of mental health, trauma and/or addiction issues. The centre is run privately and clients are seen on an outpatient basis. In collaboration with their diverse team of health professionals, Lisa offers private, customized yoga sessions designed to promote healing and well being. By working with the body, breath, mind and emotions, clients connect more deeply to themselves and experience wholeness and integration. Clients learn the skills that they need to help heal themselves. In addition to private sessions, Lisa teaches a public yoga class at Helix from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm on Thursday afternoons. Pre-registration is required.

St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto

Lisa collaborated with St. Michael's Hospital to offer gentle yoga classes; specifically to address anxiety and depression. Classes supported the students' physical, emotional and spiritual well-being, serving as an adjunct to their treatment process. A compassionate and safe environment was established to explore slow, mindful movement. Students focused on breath and movement to connect more fully to their own experience. Through movement, students had the opportunity to shift energy and emotions in the body.

Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office, Thorncliffe, Ontario

Lisa partnered with this community organization as part of the Violence Against Women Program, offering clients' yoga as a way to relax, heal and connect with themselves.

The Jean Tweed Centre, Oakville, Ontario

From 2007 - 2011, Lisa taught yoga, recreation and leisure, and stress management sessions as part of the treatment program at the Jean Tweed Centre, a Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre for women.
