About Lisa

Lisa Mitchell is a seasoned yoga teacher with a background in health promotion and education. Lisa prides herself in offering inclusive, welcoming classes that possess a mindful quality. Along with her teaching, she also mentors aspiring yoga teachers. Lisa has always been a curious and inquisitive individual who is fascinated by personal growth and transformation.

Lisa discovered yoga when pregnant with her first child. The exploratory journey that she began over twelve years ago offers her a way to pay attention, connect with herself and others.

Lisa undertook her first two-year yoga teacher training at the Esther Myers Yoga Studio. In 2012, she completed a 300 hour advanced teacher training program at the Octopus Garden Holistic Yoga Centre, as well as restorative yoga training.

As a mother of two daughters, Lisa finds yoga and meditation to be essential tools for remaining present, grounded and openhearted. Before making yoga her full-time vocation, Lisa worked in public health for many years. She maintains a special interest in women’s mental health and is keen to share how yoga offers a way to become more emotionally balanced, healthy and strong.

Her academic background includes a Master of Education in Adult Education, Community Development and Counseling Psychology. She has taught yoga to women recovering from substance abuse, women who have experienced violence and to women in a hospital setting managing anxiety and depression.

Lisa has taken yoga to community centres, churches, schools, workplaces, hotels and parks and she works with a variety of populations from babies to older adults.  She is delighted to be teaching yoga classes at two Toronto yoga studios, 889 Yoga + Wellness Spa and Octopus Garden Holistic Yoga Centre. Lisa invites you to pause, go inside and listen to your own truth.

The point of stretching isn’t to see (or show) how far you can reach, or even to reach as far as you can, but... to pay attention.
